By King O.My husband and I tested out several espresso machines in the $100-$200 about a year ago (wish I could remember which ones! I know one was a Krups), picking out the ones with the best reviews. We were still so annoyed with the first two, which were also pump-driven. This machine was the third try, and now I’m pretty sure this is the ONLY worthwhile machine in this price range.
I also worked at a cafe and missed having the $10k machine to make free drinks, and this is an awesome substitute. I have friends who are huge coffee snobs say the lattes this thing makes are the best they’ve ever had. I agree, and I love being able to whip up a couple at a time. Unlike other cheap machines, this one will actually steam milk from refrigerator-cold to piping hot, no cheating with the microwave required. That is a huge deal to me, and definitely makes a difference in quality.
